Peer Review Process

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Sustainable Development (JIESD) employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of published manuscripts. All submitted manuscripts must first undergo an initial screening by the editorial team to verify their relevance to the journal’s scope, adherence to submission guidelines, and compliance with ethical publication standards.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are then assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. Both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the review process to maintain objectivity and impartiality. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its scholarly contribution, methodological soundness, clarity of presentation, and alignment with the journal’s thematic focus on Islamic economics and sustainable development.

Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editorial board decides whether the manuscript will be accepted, requires revision, or is declined. Authors are provided with detailed feedback and may be requested to revise their manuscripts to address reviewers’ comments before final acceptance. The editor-in-chief makes the final decision on publication, ensuring all accepted works meet the journal’s standards for academic excellence and ethical research.

The review process is designed to promote constructive academic dialogue and to support authors in refining their research for the contribution to ongoing discourse in Islamic economics, finance, and sustainability from an Islamic worldview.

Peer Review Workflow

All manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the editorial team to assess their fit with the journal’s scope, basic scientific quality, adherence to author guidelines, and compliance with ethical standards, including originality and avoidance of plagiarism. Submissions that do not meet these basic criteria may be returned to the authors without external review. Manuscripts that pass this desk review are then sent to at least two independent expert reviewers under a double-blind review procedure, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript’s contribution to Islamic economics and sustainable development, methodological soundness, originality, clarity of presentation, and alignment with the journal’s aims.

Editorial Decisions and Revisions

On the basis of the reviewers’ reports, the editor-in-chief or designated handling editor makes one of the following decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision (resubmit for review), or reject. When revisions are requested, authors receive detailed comments and are expected to respond point by point and revise their manuscript within the specified time frame before the paper can be reconsidered. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation, especially in the case of major revisions, before a final decision is taken.

Review Timeline

The journal is committed to an efficient and transparent review timeline so that authors receive timely feedback on their work. Under normal circumstances, authors can expect an initial editorial decision (desk reject or sent to peer review) within approximately 2–4 weeks after submission, and a first post-review decision within about 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript. The total time from submission to final decision may vary according to the number of review rounds and the speed of authors in submitting revisions, but the editorial office aims to keep the overall process within commonly accepted scholarly publishing standards.
