Publication Ethics

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Sustainable Development (JIESD) upholds high standards of publication ethics, following international best practices such as those promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to principles of honesty, transparency, and academic integrity, including accurate data reporting, proper citation and acknowledgment, and the avoidance of plagiarism, redundant publication, and unethical research practices. Editors manage the peer review process fairly and confidentially, reviewers must provide objective and constructive assessments within a reasonable time, and authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is original, that all co-authors have approved the final version, and that any conflicts of interest are clearly disclosed.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must ensure that their submissions are original works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere, in whole or in substantial part. All sources used in the research must be appropriately cited, and any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, or redundant publication is strictly prohibited. Authors are responsible for obtaining necessary permissions, disclosing any potential conflicts of interest, and ensuring that all listed co-authors have made a significant contribution to the work and have approved the final version of the manuscript.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors have the duty to make fair, objective, and timely decisions on submitted manuscripts based solely on their academic merit, relevance to the journal’s scope, and the quality of the research, without discrimination based on the authors’ background or affiliation. They must manage manuscripts confidentially, avoid any conflict of interest, and ensure that the peer review process is conducted with integrity, including the selection of competent and impartial reviewers. Editors are also responsible for taking appropriate action when ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct are raised, which may include issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations of the manuscripts assigned to them and to treat all submitted material as confidential. They should identify relevant published work that has not been cited, alert the editor to any substantial similarity with other published or submitted manuscripts, and declare any conflicts of interest that might affect the impartiality of their review. Reviewers must not use any unpublished material from a manuscript for their own research without explicit permission from the authors and the editor.

Handling of Misconduct and Corrections

If ethical misconduct is suspected—such as plagiarism, data manipulation, or unethical research practices—the journal will investigate the case carefully and transparently, following established procedures and, where appropriate, guidelines issued by international ethics bodies. Depending on the outcome, the journal may reject the manuscript, retract a published article, publish a correction or clarification, or take other remedial measures to protect the integrity of the scholarly record. The journal encourages authors and readers to report any potential ethical issues so that they can be addressed promptly and appropriately.
